“Having being taken sailing on board the family yacht at only a few weeks old, I have been involved in sailing and boating for all of my life.
From sailing dinghies at Kimbolton School and taking part in National Schools Championships for Laser II’s; I then started to kayak competitively, becoming the Captain of Kimbolton School’s canoe team, in addition to being voted as chairman of my universities (Nottingham) canoe club. Unbroken school record for the Devizes to Westminster kayak marathon still stands today.
During work placements at Oyster Marine on the commissioning team I learned a lot about the skill level required to safely crew and skipper such vessels.
My first job started as crew on board a brand new Oyster 56 based in the Caribbean.
From here I was approached by the founder of Oyster Marine to see if I was interested in assisting his skipper and crew to deliver his yacht an Oyster 62 – Oystercatcher XXIV from Antigua to New Zealand for the Americas Cup. This I gladly accepted and it was here that real Ocean sailing and a whole new world of yacht delivery started.
After passing my Yachtmaster exam, which was then commercially endorsed my first Skippers’ role was on an Oyster 56, which I ran for over three years, spending seasonally time in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. Sailing across the Atlantic three times in the same year.
A natural progression to my career was another skippers’ position with my crew onboard an Oyster 62. From here, I was a relief 1st Mate on a modern classic ketch of 156’ based in Antigua and St.Maartin in the Caribbean. Returning to Oyster yachts, I was employed as Skipper for an Oyster 62.
Returning to the UK, I set up Seaway a multi faceted marine business which now provides a professional yacht delivery service for yacht and boat owners with high expectations.
My own experience is over 380,000 Nautical miles as Skipper. I am an RYA qualified instructor and am able to teach en-route any necessary syllabus to yacht owners as part of the service
I have a team of very good and professional yacht skippers, first mates and crew members who are hand picked by me to ensure at all times a high standard of seamanship, professionalism and customer care is adhered to.
The requirement I have for my skippers’ is them having an absolute minimum of around 50,000 miles as skipper on a variety of different yachts and differing conditions and locations throughout the world.
This means that you can be sure that your yacht is in very good hands at all times.
