Seaway Yacht Delivery to Palma
Yacht delivery from the UK to Palma
Our latest yacht delivery last month month was onboard a Sweden Yachts 45 from The Solent to Palma, Mallorca in the Mediterranean.
Seaway provided a Skipper, First Mate and Deckhand for this delivery for a new client who had recently enquired for our assistance.
We arrived to find an impeccably maintained yacht, one which had been truly cared for and meticulously maintained from new. All safety gear was present and in date – liferaft, EPIRB, fire extinguishers and so on. The delivery trip would involve a lot of careful navigation and weather routing for a trip at this time the year. Sailing out of the Western Approaches and a Biscay crossing in the winter need careful planning. With an excellent team onboard, and our own experienced shore based team, we were able to ensure the yacht was in fair weather at all times during the delivery. Having to wait for storm Imogen to pass, the delivery continued safely along the coast of Portugal into slightly warmer waters.
We have recently been supplied with new thermals, and foul weather gear from Henri Lloyd, and it was put to the test in the chilly temperatures and rain. Great reports from our crew suggested this was a great investment and they were glad to be using the latest equipment.
A few stops were made on the way, mainly for weather delays and once to refuel. We believe some contaminated fuel had been put onboard, and unfortunately this caused the engine to struggle at times. A change of fuel filters was done and the yacht was back on her way.
Entering the Gibraltar straits early morning provided some stunning photos, with Europe to port and Africa to starboard. Sailing well thought the straits, a brief stop for fuel, the crew continued onwards to Palma. A lack of wind a few hours after Gibraltar resulted in some motoring, this lasted for around 24 hours, then sails were hoisted and good progress was made again.
We try and sail as far as possible, to lessen wear on the engine, however motoring sometimes is necessary and we will not put to open sea generally in more than a Force 6, so this avoids unnecessary wear and tear on your yacht.
Arrival into Palma 16 days after departure from the UK was a good time, especially at this time of the year. A warm welcome into Palma, carefully timed to greet the owner and family, was very welcome after the chilly delivery trip! Some great photos from this trip are in the gallery section of our website.
Our new client was very happy with our services and advice on his new cruising areas whilst in the Balearics. A testimonial from him can be found on the testimonials page.
After finishing our work, completing our purpose made 360 point, checklist, the yacht was handed over to her owner for their holidays. We are providing free charts for all deliveries in February and March for our clients for their new cruising grounds after delivery.
