Yacht Delivery UK To Gibraltar
Discovery 55 Southampton to Gibraltar
Yacht delivery of a Discovery 55 from Southampton to Gibraltar for Mediterranean cruising for the owner.
Seaway provided one of our longest standing skippers Mr Ehling to carry out this delivery trip, ably supported by a highly experienced and qualified First Mate Peter who has been sailing with us for many years. Joining our team last year was our deckhand, Sarah, who is a qualified Yachtmaster
A rather chilly morning earlier this year with a force 5 – 6 northerly wind blowing, sails were hoisted and course set for rounding Ushant and into the picturesque port of Cameret. Here an up-to-date weather forecast was obtained and after a wait of 24 hours the yacht set out across Biscay.
We would usually stop at Camaret when heading south across Biscay to obtain the very latest weather synopsis and outlook before crossing the notorious Bay of Biscay. Similarly Vigo or La Corunna area is used by us before heading north across the Bay of Biscay
An uneventful crossing of the Bay of Biscay with favourable winds meant that once passed Cape Finisterre, the delivery continued southwards towards the Portuguese coastline. Sailing on a broad reach with the preventer on, a smooth and fairly quick passage was made down the Portuguese coast. Cape St Vincent – a very high and rugged headland shaped by force of the un-interrupted Atlantic was rounded before heading for the Straits of Gibraltar. A combination of motoring and motor-sailing along the south coast of Portugal and then Spain. Sails hoisted again for the Gibraltar Straits, passed Tarifa and into Gibraltar Bay
A very successful trip on this well-known route by us and a very happy owner gave his thanks to Seaway yacht delivery for such a professional and highly recommended service.
